Blended Learning: Maintaining Teaching Excellence Through a Year of Challenge and Change

To be held online: 9th and 10th June 2021

The past academic year has presented colleagues and students with unprecedented challenges and yet despite this there is much to celebrate. This year’s conference will focus on innovative and existing best practice that has been adapted to, or created for, blended delivery for 2021 and beyond.

We look forward to discussing the challenges and opportunities of the past year from both staff and student perspectives, with a particular focus on innovations born of necessity but developed through to genuine pedagogical approaches for teaching excellence.
We will explore this theme through a range of papers and workshops related to the following strands:

  • Developing digital skills, capabilities, and citizenship for the “new normal”
  • Educational innovations for 2021 and beyond
  • Promoting student and staff wellbeing through face to face and remote engagement
  • Blended learning approaches that include and engage.

On the 9th we are pleased to welcome Sheila McNeil, Independent consultant and ex-Chair of ALT to give a keynote: Which way now? Can we be directed by critical uncertainty?

Sheila MacNeil is an independent consultant, open educator, writer, keynote speaker and artist specialising in all aspects of supporting digital learning and teaching primarily within the UK HE sector. Sheila has over 20 years’ experience within education working in a range of national and institutional roles covering curriculum design, assessment and feedback, learning analytics, developing digital capabilities, learning spaces and almost everything else in between. She is active on a range of social media and a regular blogger. From 2017 to June 2020 Sheila was Chair of ALT and is still an active member of the ALT community.
