2018 Projects update

Following on from the launch of a range of development projects in 2017, project leads and members of LTSEC were invited to attend a briefing session that highlighted progress on last year’s projects, and to discuss new projects and initiatives launched in 2018. 1    Transitions, retention, progression and student success

Improving student retention: development of student attendance policy and refinements University protocols for monitoring student engagement, including the use of electronic registers
Guidance for student module choice: updates and developments to work on improving the information students require to make good module choices, recommendations to be taken forward
Supporting transition for direct entry students: continuation of project to incorporate student views, ad develop recommendations in supporting both transition from partner courses and also in relation to direct entrants to the final year
Employability Skills: development of a SAP and VTDA project in the Business School on improving undergraduate students’ career readiness & employability through a development of a digital platform – exploration of potential to roll out to other parts of the University

2    Developing staff and student capabilities

Learner Journeys One Year On: update on Library Services project looking at staff expectations regarding student skills at levels 4, 5 and 6, and what the Library Services Team can do to support this
Developing Personal Academic Tutoring: progress update on the pilot implementation of the model of PAT and WiP (Working in Partnership) initiative
Student representation and communication: Students’ Union work on a new Code of Practice for student academic representation and the development of a communications strategy
Assessment and feedback: progress on review of University Assessment Policy, including updating of principles for assessment and feedback, guidance for staff on good practice in making feedback effective, and in managing projects and independent studies, and revised and updated policy in relation to moderation and standardisation of marking
